Are you hitting the road this summer? If you are, be ready to be on the road with almost everyone else. Road Tripping is the vacation choice for 2020. I road tripped for most of 2019, visiting 44 states to finish out my lower 48. But road trip safety when traveling is a little different now. You can travel safely, you just need a few more things then you did before.
Check If It’s Open
State Parks and hiking trails are opening back up for visitors. Some of the campsites are opening as well. You may have to make a reservation, so be sure to go online or call ahead. I headed out to a beautiful park we love in Johnson City called Pedernales Falls Nature Park. It was free to explore the Nature Park, but you did have to have a reservation for the campsite and falls.
Road Trip Safety Kit
You can travel safely as long as you take precautions. Have what you need, and what is required. Some states require a mask no matter what store you are going into. Some states only require a mask in certain areas. Remember to stay your distance from others, and most of all, remember to have fun. Here is a Road Trip Safety Kit that I highly recommend.

- Hat – This is great to have when you are taking a hike or going fishing.
- Snacks – I like to have snacks every where I go, you don’t want that blood sugar going low.
Games For The Kids
Always make sure you have fun things to keep the kids busy if you are taking them on a road trip. These easy to create games are great for kids, and they will love making them and playing with them.
- Cookie sheet
- Small round magnets
- Felt in a few colors
- Popsicle sticks
- Dry erase marker
- Small paint brush
- Craft glue
- Paint a tic-tac-toe game on one side of the cookie sheet.
- Cut 6 – 12 fish shapes out of the felt, about 1″ – 2″ long, you can use 2 colors for a fun game.
- To make the tic-tac-toe pieces, cut 5 – O’s and 5 – X’s out of felt, about 2″ big.
- Using the craft glue, stick the fish to the magnets.
- Now glue the O’s and X’s to magnets.
- Paint 2 popsicle sticks in different colors. You can have them match the fish colors if you want to.
- Tie a piece of yarn to one end of the popsicle stick.
- Glue a piece of yarn onto a magnet and then a piece of felt on top of it.
- Store all the pieces on the cookie sheet.
Snack Pack For Road Trip Safety In 2020
Even before all the changes of 2020, road tripping meat road trip snacks. Even when my kiddo was small and would travel with me, I always had extra snacks for the car. It’s one good way to not have to stop to much when you are on the road.
- All of your favorite small snacks that won’t go bad
- Tackle box or craft box
- Paint marker to personalize box
- Fill each compartment with your favorite snacks
- Color the outside of the craft box with the paint markers.

Staying healthy this summer does not have to be hard – especially if you plan on taking a road trip or a staycation either at home or nearby. - Eat healthy – Be sure to eat healthy and not indulge. If you are working from home it’s easy to get up and grab snacks. Have healthy choices to choose from for your snacks.
- Get enough sleep – They say to get at least 8 hours of sleep a night to stay healthy.
- Relax after work – So many of us are working from home, and we can find ourselves unable to shut-off from work. We don’t have that drive home to decompress so go take a walk, relax in the backyard, watch a funny movie.
- Wash Your hands – Keep your hands free from germs by using hand sanitizer or washing with soap and water.
