German New Year’s Eve Traditions

My family follows a lot of German traditions, but I had never heard of the donut tradition until I started researching for this post.

  • Germany – Eat a donut to represent the year coming to a full circle. They also eat jam filled donuts but beware of the mustard filled donut that will bring bad luck.

Philippines New Year’s Eve Traditions

These aren’t your traditional pennies from heaven, this is such a fun tradition. One of my best friends is from the Philippines and she said this is a tradition she grew up with.

  • Philippines – throw coins for good luck and prosperity.
  • Russia – They write down a wish, burn it, and throw it into the champagne glass and drink it.

 

  • England – Midnight kisses to set the tone of your relationship for the new year.
  • Turkey – Sprinkle salt on the front step to bring peace and abundance to the new year.
  • Spain – Eat 12 grapes – one at each stroke of the clock at midnight on New Year’s Eve. Each grape represents good luck for one month of the coming year.

Fun New Year’s Eve DIY Game

Create the flying top hat or flying baby game with just a few items. You could even have races to win prizes at your New Years Eve party.

Items Needed

  • Straw
  • Card Stock
  • Deco Art Black Acrylic Paint
  • String
  • Balloon
  • Glue Dots
  • Sparkle Stickers
  • Sponge Brush

Directions

  1. Cut out a top hat from the card stock, make a square and then a 1″ strip for the brim.
  2. Use the sponge brush to paint the hat with the black acrylic paint.
  3. Spell out a fun phrase on the heat with the glitter letters like “Happy New Year”.
  4. Place to glue dots on the straw and connect the balloon on the straw.
  5. After the hat is dry, connect it to the other side of the balloon with glue dots.
  6. String the straw onto the string.
  7. Blow up the balloon and let it go. The longer the string the farther it will go.

 

New Year's Eve Traditions

Create A New Year’s Eve Tierra

Don’t spend a fortune on those New Years Eve hats and tierras. Create your own fun headgear using headbands that you can get at the grocery store for under a $1, and tulle from the local craft store.

Items Needed

  • Headbands
  • Silver & Gold Tulle on a roll

Directions

  1. Cut strips of tulle 12″ by 5″-6″.
  2. Tie the strips of tulle onto the headband, about 20 – 30.
  3. Cut the top of the tulle to even it out.

New Years Eve DIY Traditions

Midnight Kisses

Did you save those wrapping paper rolls, or toilet paper rolls? They really come in handy when creating New Years Eve DIY fun.  You can create your own Midnight Kisses Party Poppers with wrapping paper rolls and a few items from the craft store.

Items Needed

  • Wrapping Paper Rolls or Toilet Paper Rolls
  • Tissue Paper in Silver and Gold
  • Curly Ribbon
  • Deco Art Black paint
  • Deco Art Glamour Glitter Paint
  • Hershey Kisses
  • Sponge Brush

Directions

  1. Cut the wrapping paper roll into 4″ long tubes or use toilet paper rolls.
  2. Paint the roll with the black paint.
  3. Let dry completely.
  4. Fill the roll with Hershey Kisses.
  5. Cut tissue paper to 10″ x 10″ square.
  6. Roll the filled roll on the tissue paper and tie the ends with the curly ribbon.
  7. Paint the outside of the tissue paper with the glitter paint.

 

New Year's Eve Traditions

Air Fryer Donuts

Items Needed

  • 1 Can of Pillsbury Grands Flaky Biscuits
  • Cooking Spray
  • 1/4 Cup Butter
  • 1/2 Cup Sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
  • Donut Cutter (Something to cut a hole in the buscuit)

Directions

  1. Lay out the biscuit on a cutting board.
  2. Cut a hole out of each biscuit.
  3. Set the air fryer to 5 minutes at 350 degrees.
  4. Let the donuts cool for a couple minutes.
  5. Melt the butter.
  6. Mix the sugar and cinnamon in a large flat container.
  7. Brush the butter on the donut wherever you want the sugar mixture to go.
  8. Dip the donut in the sugar mixture.
  9. Best to eat when they are warm, but still great when they cool off.

Other ideas – Powdered sugar, chocolate, you could even make them spicy with Italian herbs and garlic salt.
