12 Great Egg Substitutes

Eggs are the new toilet paper of the year. Have you gone to the grocery store lately? So many products are more expensive than ever, especially eggs. It doesn’t matter if you buy cage-free, high-end, or store-brand, eggs are one of the most expensive products on the shelves right now. I’ve never been a big egg fan, but I do need eggs to make certain things that my family eats. I’ve learned that these 12 great egg substitutes work when creating your favorite recipes.

 

Ground Flaxseed

For One Egg

  • 1 Tablespoon Ground Flaxseed
  • 3 Tablespoons Water

When using ground flaxseed, be sure to mix it with water and let it sit for around 15 minutes.

 

Ground Chia Seed

For One Egg

  • 1 Tablespoon Ground Flaxseed
  • 3 Tablespoons Water

When using ground flaxseed, be sure to mix it with water and let it sit for around 15 minutes.

 

Applesauce

This has always been my favorite substitute for eggs. I like the all natural so you aren’t adding more sugar then you need to.

For One Egg

  • 1/4 cup of applesauce

 

Avocado

For One Egg

  • 1/2 Ripe mashed avocado

 

Bananas

This works great for bread and muffins. It does add a banana flavor, of course, so be sure to use it in items that complement the banana flavor.

For One Egg

  • 1/2 Mashed ripe banana.

 

Coconut Oil

This product is a little pricey to buy, but it will last a long time.

For One Egg

  • 1/4 Cup Solid Coconut Oil 

Soy Yogurt

For One Egg

  • 1/4 Cup soy yogurt

Full Fat Yogurt Or Sour Cream

For One Egg

  • 1/4 Cup of yogurt or sour cream  

Aquafaba

This is the liquid inside your can of chickpeas.

For One Egg

  • 3 Tablespoons aquafaba

Silkin Tofu

This is best used for sauces and mayonnaise. But can also be a great substitute for eggs in your baked goods like brownies.  Just mix it with your favorite neutral oil.

Heavy Cream

This works great as an egg substitute. It adds plenty of moisture to your baked goods and works great in place of an egg wash.

Coconut Cream

If you are looking for a dairy-free substitute, try using coconut cream.
