Hot Buttered Rum Cocktail – Perfect For Winter Nights
This cocktail can be created at any time of the year, but it is perfect during those cold winter nights. Did you know that January 17th is Hot Buttered Rum Cocktail Day? There is a day for almost everything, but those national cocktail days are some of my favorites.
Create A Hot Buttered Rum Cocktail
It is a very easy cocktail to make, and the recipe makes 2 cocktails. You could add whipped cream, a sprinkle of nutmeg, a cinnamon stick, or just drink it as is.
Items Needed
- 1 Cup Water
- 6 Tblsp Dark Rum
- 2 Tbsp Butter Softened
- 3 Tbsp Brown Sugar
- 1 Tblsp Pure Maple Syrup
- ½ Tsp Vanilla Extract
- ¼ Tsp Nutmeg
- ½ Tsp Cinnamon
- 1 Pinch of Ground Cloves
- Pinch of Salt Optional
- Cinnamon Stick Optional
Directions
- Mix the brown sugar, all spices, the syrup, and the vanilla.
- Combine until smooth.
- Place one tablespoon of butter at the bottom of a glass coffee or cocktail mug.
- Measure 3 tablespoons of rum, and pour it over the butter.
- Add the brown sugar mixture to the glass and stir it into the rum.
- The butter will not mix yet.
- Boil the water.
- Pour the boiling water over the butter and rum mixture.
- Stir until it is combined.
- There will be a froth on top.
- Add Whipped Cream, some nutmeg, and a cinnamon stick, and serve hot.

You can drink it like this or add all the yummy Toppings.
Hot Buttered Rum Recipe Goes Great With
This cocktail goes great with apple pie and ice cream, or an apple tart with caramel sauce. You can also make it a mocktail by using rum extract in place of dark rum.
