Christmas will be here before we know it and buying gifts for friends and family can really get out of hand. I love creating hand made gifts for my friends and family, and these 10 DIY Christmas gift ideas are not only easy to create, but won’t break the bank.

Cupcake Socks

These cupcake socks are a great way to give a warm gift to a loved one in a cute package. The socks came in 4-pack, and the cupcake packages came in a count of 50, but you can certainly purchase a smaller quantity.

Items Needed

  • Fun Socks With Pom Poms On Them
  • Cupcake Holders
  • Cupcake Packaging

Directions

  1. Turn one of the socks inside out and roll the socks into a ball.
  2. Overlap the inside out sock so it show the right side when overlapped over the other sock.
  3. Place the socks inside the cupcake holder, then inside the packaging.

DIY Baking Gift

This is the perfect gift for the baker in your family. You could change it up and make a pasta and pasta sauce one too.

Items Needed

  • Hot Pad With A Pocket
  • Cookie Mix
  • Spatula Or Spoon
  • Christmas Ribbon
  • Candy Canes

Directions

  1. Place the cookie mix, spatula, spoon, and candy cane inside the pocket of the hot pad.
  2. Tie a bow around the oven mitt.
  3. You can add a Christmas floral pick too.

Advent Calendar

Creating advent calendars is one of my favorite things to do every holiday season. Last year I created 25 Advent calendars and then gave them away. It was so fun to see the excitement on my friends and families faces as they opened this wonderful gift.

Items Needed

  • 25 Toilet Paper Rolls (You can cut paper towel rolls in half too)
  • Christmas Scrapbook Paper
  • Advent Numbers
  • Tissue Paper
  • Christmas Candy
  • Curly Ribbon
  • Thick Christmas Ribbon
  • Glue Dots
  • Hot Glue Gun

Directions

  1. Cut 25 different pieces of scrapbook paper to 3″ by 6″.
  2. Glue the scrapbook paper to the outside of the toilet paper roll with the glue dots.
  3. Stick a number sticker to the outside of the scrapbook paper.
  4. Place a couple pieces of candy inside a piece of tissue paper and roll it up.
  5. Tie each end of the tissue paper with curly ribbon and place it inside the TP roll.
  6. Hot glue the TP rolls to a long piece of Christmas ribbon and glue a loop to the top of the ribbon to hang it by.

Candy Cane Snowman

This is a fun craft for the kids to create and give away. It’s one of my favorite of the 10 DIY Christmas gift ideas. You can place any kind of candy in the bags, and even write someone’s name on the clay pot.

Items Needed

  • Clay Pot (I used a 4″, but you could use any size)
  • Deco Art Paint – Black And White
  • Sponge Brush
  • Clear Goody Bags
  • Christmas Ribbon
  • Deco Art Paint Markers – Orange And Black
  • Candy

Directions

  1. Paint the clay pot with the white paint.
  2. Paint the outside opening edge of the clay pot with the black paint.
  3. Draw the eyes and mouth with the black paint marker to look like coal.
  4. Draw the nose to look like a carrot with the orange paint marker.
  5. Fill the goody bag with candy and tie it off with Christmas ribbon.
  6. Place the candy bag inside the clay pot snowman.

Hot Chocolate Bar

Items Needed

  • 3 Mason Jars
  • Wooden Crate
  • Decou Page
  • Glitter – White, Red, Green
  • Deco Art Paint – Brown
  • Antiquing Medium
  • Sponge Brush
  • Hot Chocolate Powder
  • Marshmallows
  • Candy Canes
  • Christmas Coffee Mugs

Directions

  1. Paint the outside of the mason jar with decou page.
  2. Place the jar on a paper plate and pour glitter over the outside.
  3. Shake off the excess.
  4. Let dry at least an hour.
  5. Paint another layer of decou page over the glitter and let it dry overnight.
  6. Fill each jar with the hot chocolate items.
  7. Mix 1 part brown paint and one part antiquing medium. 
  8. Paint the wooden crate and let dry.
  9. Place the filled jars inside the crate and the coffee mugs on top.

Christmas Candy Dish

I love making clay pot candy dishes. I usually make one for every season. They are inexpensive, very easy to create, and make great gifts.

Items Needed

  • Clay Pot
  • Clay Saucer
  • Plastic Fish Bowl
  • Candy
  • Deco Art Paint – Red And White (Or whatever colors you like)
  • Sponge Brush
  • E6000 Glue

Directions

  1. Paint the outside of the clay pot with red, including the bottom of it, this will actually be the top.
  2. Using the white paint, paint the outside edges of the clay pot and the saucer.
  3. Be sure to paint the inside of the saucer too.
  4. Using the tip of a small paint brush, dip it in the white paint and paint polk-a-dots all over the clay pot.
  5. Flip over the clay pot and glue the fish bowl to the top of the clay pot (see picture).
  6. Fill the fish bowl with candy.
  7. Place the saucer on top.

Christmas JOY Sign

I have always wanted to make one of these signs for my door, and I love how it turned out. It was so easy to create, that I may be making one for everyone.

Items Needed

  • 3 Cross Stitch Wooden Ring – 12″
  • Christmas Material – I Used A Buffalo Pattern
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Wooden Letters – J And Y
  • Small Greenery Wreath
  • Christmas Ribbon – At Least 3″ Thick
  • Floral Picks

Directions

  1. Cut the material about 1″ larger then the wooden circles.
  2. Take apart the wooden ring and place the material between the two circles.
  3. Screw the small circle back together with the large circle to hold the material inside of it.
  4. Repeat this for all 3 circles.
  5. Glue the J to the middle of one of the circles.
  6. Next, glue the Y to another circle.
  7. Finally, glue the small wreath the the last circle.
  8. Glue all three circles to the Christmas ribbon in order.
  9. Create a loop at the top of the ribbon.
  10. You could add some Christmas floral picks for an added touch.

Spiked Hot Chocolate Test Tubes

This is such a fun gift to create, you can fill the test tubes with so many fun things, and it is a great gift idea.

    • Marshmallows

Directions

  1. Fill the test tubes with the hot chocolate items.
  2. Tie the test tubes together with a rubber band and then tie the Christmas ribbon in a bow around them.
  3. Fill the middle with candy canes and straws.

Glittered Christmas Coasters

I love putting glitter on everything, and these Christmas coasters are no exception. They are fun and really easy to create. This is a definite for my 10 DIY Christmas Gift Ideas.

Items Needed

  • Decou Page
  • Sponge Brush
  • Paper Plate
  • Glitter – I Used Green And Red
  • Ceramic Tiles

Directions

  1. Paint the decou page onto the top of the tile, don’t be shy, a good thick layer is necessary.
  2. Place the tile on a paper plate.
  3. Pour the glitter onto the top of the tile and shake the excess off.
  4. Let it dry for about an hour.
  5. Paint another layer over the glitter to seal it in.
