Halloween is over and the holidays begin. But wait, don’t forget about Thanksgiving and all the turkey fun. I created these DIY Thanksgiving table decorations with items from around my home. I kept them simple and added a yummy twist to grandma’s table treats.

When decorating, always start with things you already have. I bought these Thanksgiving dishes many years ago, but I’ve never had a chance to use them. They are beautiful, but when it’s just 2 empty nesters for Thanksgiving, the paper plates seems better than a bunch of dishes to clean.

Bring Out The Colors

I pulled a few colors from the dishes I had, like blue and soft orange, and started there. Then I painted some white pumpkins I already had with blue paint and orange paint. I then added some browns with floral and a runner. Finish off the look with candles, lots of different candles.

Painting Pumpkins

You can buy all different sizes of pumpkins now, so I went all out with the pumpkins. I like to start with a white pumpkin so you can paint it any color. Though starting with the regular orange pumpkins works too,

Keep The Kids Busy

The printer is your best friend when it comes to creating things to keep the kids busy. I created these fun Thanksgiving placemats by copying a few different pumpkins and placing them all together on one sheet. Tell the kids to get creative and have fun decorating the pumpkins, and have them make one for every place setting.

Items Needed

  • Computer and Printer
  • Crayons
  • Card Stock

Directions

  1. Find pumpkin outlines on your search engine by typing in pumpkin and hitting the image selection.
  2. Cut and paste them onto a word document, and change the layout to landscape.
  3. Print this out onto card stock.
  4. Give each kid their own package of crayons and a styrofoam pumpkin to decorate too.

Turkey Leg Treats

These are so fun to make and even more fun to eat. You only need a few items, and if you don’t have a Wilton melting pot, you can always use a plastic bowl and the microwave, just melt the items nice and slow.

Items Needed

  • Honey Wheat Pretzel Sticks
  • Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • Caramel Bits
  • Parchment Paper

Directions

  1. Melt the caramel in a plastic microwave-safe bowl, I did 30 seconds at a time until it was smooth and melted.
  2. Dip the tip of the pretzels in the melted caramel until there is a blob on the bottom.
  3. Place the sticks on the parchment paper and put them in the refrigerator.
  4. Melt the chocolate chips either in a melting pot or the microwave for 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between.
  5. Dip the cold caramel sticks in the melted chocolate and place them back on the parchment paper.
  6. Cool in the refrigerator.
